Hello From Mexico

Some of you already know that I’m in Mexico, moved here last October and believe me this move was a surprise to me too. My life turned up side down in one month and looking back, maybe it didn’t need to be that crazy, but alas, no time to regret. We all know regret is a total waste of time and eats at your gut and your senses like mesquite to your blood. Mosquitos suck your blood and regret sucks your energy and leaves your drained, so why bother with it. Talking about mosquitos, better get used to them if you come visit me, it’s humid here being near the ocean and unfortunately for me, they love my blood so maybe you will be safe sitting next to me.

I’ve been here for 7 months now and one of the things I love about Mexicans is that are very family oriented. They vacation with their families and I mean everyone from grandparents to great grandchildren, they rent a large house and eat, drink and party all together. No one is left out or excluded.

Life in Mexico is different, when it comes to time, even the nationals call it Mexico time, everything is done but slowly. I’ll give you an example, I moved from on rental to another called the cable company to have my internet transferred. Two weeks later they show up, for two weeks I had no internet and was using the internet of the restaurants and cafes around town. Then one month later some guy calls me to come and hook up my internet, demanding I confirm my new address with him; of course, I didn’t and didn’t need his help anymore. So, it’s Mexico time and I had to learn to relax and trust the process. Learning to trust the process of how things go here, learning to trust the process of emotional and spiritual growth and learning the trust the process of life. It all goes hand in hand.

My life here is different than California, I’m literally 5 minutes walking distance from the beach, I hear the ocean waves every morning. All the fruits and vegetables come directly from the far to the mom-and-pop stores. So much to be grateful for, actually no matter where we are we can be grateful, right? Do you express gratitude daily?
Honestly, every time something that would come up which needs me to take a chill pill, I would have to remind myself what I’m grateful for. I say to myself, “Arsi you are next to the beach, when was the last time in your life, you could walk to the beach and watch the sunset?” “Arsi, look how cheap the food is here, when was the last time you bought food so cheap?” Arsi, you walk to restaurants and cafés to meet friends, when was the last time you were walking distance to friends and restaurants?” Ok, maybe the last one isn’t fully true as when I lived in Pasadena, it was the same kind of life, I could walk to restaurants and café all day long; but you get the point right? I allow myself to remember the good things about our life and change your focus from what you want done right now to where the blessings are in your life. The truth is we can all practice this where ever we are.
